NEW BRUNSWICK EQUIPMENT HUB
Welcome to the new brunswick Equipment Hub!
The NB Equipment Hub is a part of the Atlantic Water Network’s Equipment Bank which provides monitoring equipment to community-based water monitoring programs throughout Atlantic Canada.
The Equipment Bank provides monitoring equipment to community-based water monitoring programs throughout Atlantic Canada. We ensure that equipment is calibrated and functioning properly so that your organization can collect the most accurate data possible. Equipment can be borrowed free of charge and works similarly to a library loan program.
Please contact our office today with any questions on use of equipment, if you would like to receive training on how to use any of the equipment pieces or to book for your monitoring program. The summer months are our busiest time of the year so please book in advance.
YSI Professional Plus Multi-Probe
The Professional Plus multi-probe provides the user with accurate measurements for a number of indicators of water quality – primarily pH, temperature, dissolved oxygen, conductivity, salinity, and total dissolved solids. It also has a built in barometer, which will measure barometric pressure.
Secchi Disk Kit
The turbidity of a body of water is related to the cleanliness of the water. Turbidity can be caused by high concentrations of biota such as phytoplankton, or by loading of abiotic matter such as sediments. A Secchi disk has alternating black and white quadrants that is lowered into the water column until it can no longer be seen from the surface. The point at which the disk disappears is a function of the lake turbidity.
Global Water Flow Probe
This easy-to-use, extendable, flow velocity probe is lightweight and portable. With a simple computer display, a small propeller at the end of the probe calculates the average velocity of a stationary spot or of a whole water column within open channels. The probes are ideal for a number of studies including, storm runoff or drainage, river and stream flow measurements, and monitoring velocity of water in ditches, channels and sewers. Measurements are taken every second, with up to 30 separate measurements of minimum, maximum and average velocities in feet or meters per second.
Cabin Kit
The Canadian Aquatic Biomonitoring Network is a national biomonitoring program which incorporates the collection of benthic macroinvertebrates for biological assessments of streams. This program involves the use of standardized equipment and protocols for assessing aquatic ecosystems. Currently, partners involved in the CABIN program include provincial governments, Parks Canada, Department of Fisheries and Oceans, academia, First Nations, municipalities, students and community groups.
Van Dorn water sampler
The Van Dorn water sampler set with horizontal water bottle is specially designed for sampling in open water. Due to the choice of materials the set is also suitable for sampling coastal waters and for the analysis for heavy metals. This set is complete with falling weight, 30 metres of polyester rope and transport case.
FluoroSense Handheld Fluorometer
FluoroSense is a small, lightweight, highly durable handheld fluorometer ideal for quick in situ field measurements. Extremely simple to operate, FluoroSense displays results within seconds. Factory-calibrated for a linear range of 0-199 µg/L, the only maintenance required is simply rinsing after use. FluoroSense can assist with identification of PC-containing algae typically associated with Harmful Algal Blooms (HABs).
Ekman Dredge
Quickly sample sediment from various bodies of water!
Ideal for collecting samples of bottom fauna for productivity, biological, and geological studies.
Sample soft, silty, vegetation-free river, stream, or lake bottoms. Messenger-activated dredges are constructed of stainless steel with stainless steel springs and cables. Feature flow-through design for low drag and good descent stability. Dredges have positive-acting lid and jaw-control mechanism.
PORTABLE TURBIDITY METER
Measure the water clarity of your sample in the field!
The portable turbidity meter will emit light and measure the amount scattered by particles in the water sample.
Freshwater Explorer Testkit
This kit is jam-packed with easy-to-use water quality equipment that can be used by all ages!
Thermometer (air temperature)
Secchi disc (water clarity or depth)
Test strips (pH, alkalinity, hardness)
Conductivity meter (conductivity, water temperature)
CHEMets Dissolved Oxygen Kit
DJI Mini 3
The DJI Mini 3 is the perfect mini drone for both video analysis and standstill photos. Whether you are looking to get aerial site assessments - or a better close up on local animals and fauna this compact drone has many impressive features. With extended battery life, detail-rich 4K HDR video, and fun features like True Vertical Shooting for social-media-optimized shots the DJI Mini 3 is ready to help you expand your photographic abilities. Supporting direct Wifi connection and equipped with the DJI O2 digital video transmission, Mini 3 features strong anti-interference capability and a 10km max transmission range, letting you explore and capture with greater clarity.
Soil Core Sampler
The soil corer is used to collect minimally compressed, large soil cores for soil profile description, soil sampling for physico-chemical analyses, root biomass determination, and other environmental investigations including sampling for morphometric soil horizons, pollutants, microbes and soil fauna. This Soil Core Sampler provides easy usage as it is designed uniquely to reduce friction when extracting the soil core. Sample intact soil cores down to 100 cm, allowing for dissection into depth layers or morphometric horizons. This robust and flexible soil coring system for moderately sandy to stony soils is the perfect tool to help identify and analyze many different points in your sample soil.
