Beach Walk and Aquatic Plant Identification

Celebrate Aquatic Invasive Species Awareness Week by joining ACAP Saint John and the New Brunswick Invasive Species Council for a beach walk and aquatic plant identification session at Florida Beach.

Explore the shoreline while learning about the diverse aquatic plants that grow in and around our lakes and rivers. Participants will discover how to identify common native aquatic plants, recognize invasive species of concern, and learn about the work ACAP is doing in the Loch Lomond Watershed.

Throughout the walk, we'll discuss how aquatic invasive species spread, the impacts they can have on freshwater ecosystems, and the simple actions everyone can take to help prevent their introduction—such as Clean, Drain, Dry for boats, kayaks, canoes, paddleboards, and fishing gear.

Whether you're a paddler, angler, cottager, nature enthusiast, or simply curious about the plants growing along the shoreline, this is a great opportunity to learn from local experts while enjoying the outdoors.

What to bring:

  • Comfortable walking shoes or footwear that can get wet

  • Weather-appropriate clothing

  • Water bottle

  • Sunscreen, hat, and insect repellent (recommended!)
